Everex To Offer CloudBook Ultra-Mobile PC at Walmart

MobileLAS VEGAS – Everex has launched their much anticipated Ultra-Mobile PC featuring the latest Open Source operating system from gOS.

Measuring 9" in length and 2 pounds in weight, the Everex CloudBook caters to users seeking the latest in mobile computing. With its 1.2GHz VIA C7-M ULV mobile processor, the laptop averages 5 hours of battery life on a 4-cell, lithium-ion battery. With its size, specification and energy efficient design, customers will now find the performance and features of much larger laptops in one of the most mobile computer designs on the market.

"The overwhelming success of our gPC desktop generated countless inquires from customers seeking additional Open Source mobile platforms," states John Lin, general manager of Everex. "With the launch of the new CloudBook our vision remains the same: Provide mainstream users with their favorite applications wrapped in a no-compromise, low-cost, consumer friendly product."

The CloudBook, model CE1200V, showcases the Linux based gOS operating system and familiar applications from Mozilla, Skype, Google, Facebook, Faqly and OpenOffice.org. Available January 25th, the computer will be available at Walmart.com for $399.

"The potential of mainstream, Open Source PCs is tremendous," said Lin. "Combine a revolutionary platform like our CloudBook with the stunning graphics and performance provided by gOS Rocket and consumers will be armed with the utmost in mobile computing."

Same price and resolution as the eee.

Knock it down a hundred bucks.

It does have a longer

It does have a longer lasting battery and a real hard-drive, so a lot more space. Plus a higher resolution web cam, extra card reading options, and a DVI port. Why again do you think they should drop the price?

I think the key on this

I think the key on this laptops is the price. I will rather buy a 300 dls laptop or a 200 dls laptop without all that extra space since I am not looking to use a ultra-portable for storage but the real value is 'cheap mobility'.

miss me also

I would buy it same day it comes to the market even for up to 500$... BUT if they make screen resolution 800x600.
Its very annoying to use XP on it with 480 pixels, all "OK-CANCEL" buttons are out of the sceeen.
I'll wait till they make same size device with little bigger screen.

XP?

The battery life is listed as 5 hours but it only lasts about 3.5.
Past that I personaly don't really like the "feel" of it, but I do like the 30g of hard disk space. The only cons that go with it are the inability to upgrade the ram without dissasembling it, and that the Hard disk isn't solid-state, so that could lead to future problems.
