SANTA CLARA, Calif. – (NASDAQ:MRVL [1]) Marvell has said that the Company has joined the Open Handset Alliance [2], a multinational organization of technology and mobile industry leaders who share a common goal of fostering innovation on mobile devices and giving consumers a far better user experience than much of what is available on today's mobile platforms.

"Marvell believes that this open platform will spark innovation and empower developers to create revolutionary applications and accelerate the delivery of those applications to mobile users," said Marty Schroeder, Vice President of Marvell's Cellular and Handheld Business Group. "Marvell's extensive silicon portfolio, including high performance, low power Application and Communications Processors, and wireless and power management solutions, allows us to offer our customers a comprehensive suite of solutions for the next generation of mobile phones which this alliance will enable."

The mobile phone is the most pervasive communications device in the world. Marvell believes this new open platform will shorten time-to-market for cutting edge products at much lower costs. Marvell offers an open source Linux architecture that enables developers to build more compelling and user- friendly applications for consumers, effectively taking the mobile lifestyle to the next level of usability and communication.
