Security Support for Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 Ends

LinuxOne year after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 alias 'etch' and nearly three years after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 alias 'sarge' the security support for the old distribution (3.1 alias 'sarge') is coming to an end on March 31st. The Debian project is proud to be able to support its old distribution for such a long time and even for one year after a new version has been released.


Ubuntu 6.10 Reaches End of Life

LinuxUbuntu announced the release of 6.10 almost 18 months ago, on October 26, 2006.  As with the earlier releases, Ubuntu committed to ongoing security and critical fixes for a period of 18 months. The support period is now nearing its end and Ubuntu 6.10 will reach end of life on Friday April 25th, 2008.  At that time, Ubuntu Security Notices will no longer include information or updated packages for Ubuntu 6.10.

The Linux Foundation Announces Linux Standard Base 3.2

Linux Kernel 2.4.36.1 Released

LinuxWilly Tarreau has released a new Linux 2.4 series kernel, 2.4.36.1.  It includes fixes for 6 minor security issues, most of them brought by Dann Frazier of the  Debian security team. It also restores the ability to build user-space depending on kernel headers with GCC 4.2.

Survey Reveals Ubuntu and Red Hat Linux Pulling Away in OS Deployments

LinuxLONDON – Alfresco Software has released its second global survey of trends in the use of open source software in the enterprise. The Alfresco Open Source Barometer Survey, conducted throughout 2007 using opt-in data provided by Alfresco's 35,000 community members, shows deployments of Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux have a market share of 24% and 21%, respectively.
