Software Freedom Law Center to Suport For-Profit Organizations

New York, NY – The Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC), provider of pro bono legal services to protect and advance free and open source software (FOSS), has announced the formation of Moglen Ravicher LLC, a law firm which will represent select for-profit clients that support FOSS but are not eligible to receive SFLC's pro bono services.


EnterpriseDB Raises $10 Million in Series C Financing

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Today at the Open Source Business Conference, EnterpriseDB said that it has closed a $10 million round of Series C venture capital financing. The investors included Charles River Ventures, Fidelity Ventures, Valhalla Partners and IBM. To date, EnterpriseDB has raised a total of $37.5 million. The new funds will be used to continue development of the company's award-winning PostgreSQL-based databases.


Gibson Guitar Files Patent Lawsuit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Last Thursday, Gibson Guitar Corp. filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Harmonix, MTV Networks (a division of Viacom) and Electronic Arts (EA Games) in the Federal District Court in Tennessee. This new lawsuit relates to the same U.S. Patent involved in the lawsuit filed by Gibson Guitar recently against various retailers in the same court.


Harald Welte and Groklaw Winners of FSF's Annual Free Software Awards

Groklaw received the social benefit award, and Harald Welte received the advancement award. FSF president Richard Stallman handed out the awards at the conclusion of the FSF's annual associate members meeting in Cambridge, MA.


Robotic Race to the Moon Begins

GeneralMOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – The X PRIZE Foundation and Google, Inc. have announced the first ten teams to register for the Google Lunar X PRIZE, a robotic race to the Moon to win a remarkable $30 million in prizes. This international group of teams will compete to land a privately funded robotic craft on the Moon that is capable of roaming the lunar surface for at least 500 meters and sending video, images and data back to the Earth.

GeneralFRAMINGHAM, Mass. – As consumers spend more time on the Internet, companies are redistributing advertising dollars from traditional media to online media to follow this trend. In its quarterly wrap-up report, IDC says total U.S. Internet ad spending in the fourth quarter of 2007 (4Q07) grew nearly 28% over the same quarter in 2006 to $7.3 billion. For the full year 2007, online ad revenue grew 27% year over year to $25.5 billion.
