embWiSe Technologies, a Chennai,India based Start-up, has announced the release of their SDIOWorx, a Linux based Embedded SD/SDIO software stack/Bus Driver.
Being a member of the SDCard Association, embWiSe has developed an OS independent EMBEDDED SD/SDIO Stack/Bus Driver architecture framework which enables device and card designers to develop and integrate SD/SDIO support in the end products without having the need to develop an entire SD/SDIO architecture from ground-up, themselves, thereby reducing the Time-to-Market and TCO. The SDIOWorx provides a complete SD/SDIO Driver Development kit with support for SDIO Host controllers and client cards/devices conforming to SD specification 1.10. The software components in the SDIOWorx framework support SDMemory and SDIO controllers/peripherals in an embedded device.
The initial version of SDIOWorx [1] is supported on embedded Linux versions 2.4 and 2.6 with more embedded OS support being planned.
SD stands for Secure Digital and the I/O extensions are called SDIO.The SD and SDIO interface are becoming a defacto standard in handheld devices, smartphones and consumer electronics devices, because of its small stamp size mechanical dimension and low power consumption. The SD/SDIO standards adoption by most of the Consumer Electronics majors like Sony, Matsushita/Panasonic, etc., and Handheld and Smartphone device vendors like Palm, Nokia, Motorola, etc., in their devices, is likely to drive the growth of the SD/SDIO based hardware.
embWiSe intends to license the SDIOWorx Stack framework in binary and source code form to device, semicon, OS and card vendors.
embWiSe also provides software engineering services around 802.11x WLAN and SD/SDIO interconnect technologies from its facility in Chennai, India, thereby reducing the Time-to-Market and the Total Cost of Ownership to their clients.
