NEWTON, Mass. – EnterpriseDB has said at the Open Source Business Conference that EnterpriseDB 2005 Release 2 is now available. EnterpriseDB 2005 is an enterprise-class database that is built on PostgreSQL, the world's most advanced open source database. EnterpriseDB 2005 features the ability to run many Oracle applications unmodified and also provides performance enhancements over PostgreSQL. Release 2 is an update to EnterpriseDB 2005 that incorporates the most recent version of PostgreSQL (v8.0.4), improved Oracle-style cursors, faster performance, and features to facilitate integration by independent software vendors (ISVs).
In addition, JasperReports, the world's most widely used open source reporting technology, is now available and supported by EnterpriseDB. The new release, including JasperReports, is available for download at the company's website.
"This release demonstrates our commitment to continually updating EnterpriseDB to correspond with the most current version of PostgreSQL and provides robust reporting capabilities," said Denis Lussier, CTO of EnterpriseDB. "We have also improved our Oracle compatibility, further improved the product's performance over native PostgreSQL and added significant enhancements of particular interest to ISVs integrating EnterpriseDB 2005 into their products."
In addition to the PostgreSQL [1] update and a small number of routine bug fixes, Release 2 provides several new features. These include a high-speed bulk data load capability which enables EnterpriseDB 2005 to load data 30% faster than native PostgreSQL. Also, several enhancements improve both performance and compatibility with Oracle, including the addition of Oracle-style cursors. Finally, features were added to ease the incorporation of EnterpriseDB 2005 into ISV products, including new installation options and an easy-to-follow methodology that provides integration assistance.
"We are pleased that EnterpriseDB [2] has integrated JasperReports into its platform. Both technologies are increasingly popular among organizations building flexible, low total cost of ownership data infrastructures. The integrated technologies will be particularly attractive to customers who want to reduce the cost and complexity of their data management systems," said Paul Doscher, CEO of JasperSoft.
